The Ryan Sullivan Controversy

Ryan Sullivan is turning out to be controversial indeed. Comments voicing support and outrage have been flooding in. Some examples:

"I am completely stunned by the killing of a hustler. I have been a fan of TIM for years, but will not support a company that glorifies and glamorizes murder."

"Would you make a video pretending to lynch a black person? How would you feel if your brother gets HIV? How about all the other people's brothers who are seduced into a dangerous lifestyle by TIM?"

Now, Ryan is a very nice and sincere young filmmaker from Nebraska whom Paul has signed to a three-year deal to document TIM and "to explore and express his own creative ideas".

According to Ryan, "I'm telling my own story, what I see and hear and learn at TIM and in the world of gay porn--and San Francisco. Some of what I make is going to be expressive rather than strictly real. For example, I didn't *really* kill that guy in the last episode."

Apparently, Ryan's quirky and explicit work is being embraced abroad: ISLAND, the feature-length documentary based on his first weeks at Treasure Island Media, is an official selection slated to be featured in the prestigious 17th annual BRAZIL MIX FILM FESTIVAL this Fall in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

Congratulations!
