Karachi Mamas

Paul Morris pic

A recent Reuter’s piece investigated the growing emergence of pornography – Dial-In among its many varieties - in Afghani culture. Apparently there’s this complex maze of distribution that makes the Opium trade look like an amateur version of Where’s Waldo . And the whole thing, as you can imagine, is on the down low. Vendors on the streets of Karachi are reluctant to discuss sales, their top weekly rentals or even if they have porn for sale. But it is definitely a growing phenomenon in a Post-Taliban world. But it’s not like we didn’t secretly know that if you looked past the Pakols, the Lungees and the Chapans, there are just as many fisting aficionados north of the 28th parallel as there are here in the states. But it would be interesting to know just what the man on the street prefers and what, exactly, is out of bounds. Do they have their own version of “Twinks?” And is that outdated aesthetic ideal – the twenty-something, hairless, slightly muscular white male – as popular there as it is here in The States? Or do they have their own ideals – the heavily hirsute, thick-legged, middle-aged man? I would frankly kill to see porn from that part of the world since the men from that region conform more to my tastes but I get the feeling with the resurgence of the Taliban, killing is precisely what one may soon have to do to get off on porn.

Glad to see other cultural concerns/sensitivites being discussed here. But, um, Karachi's in Pakistan.

You are absolutely right. I don't know. I was going for the whole play on "Hoochie Momma" but it didn't work out so well. But, just for the record, they love their porn in Pakistan, too...
